How much do you really pay for an iphone?

December 13, 2009 | In: iPhone

I’m planning on buying an 8gb iphone. I am already a customer for At&t and want to know a few things.
1) can i put my old sim card into the iphone and still use it?
2) How much will i pay for a new 8gb iphone with no contract?
3) will i have to pay more per month than what i’m paying now?
4) if you have an iphone, is it worth it?
* where could i buy an iphone with no contract?

1. Yes you can put in your old sim card and use it
2. Depending on where you find one. ebay has them for $400 with no contract. If i was you I would rather buy it in the store for $200 with a contract.
3. Yes, because AT&T require you to buy a voice plan + $30 unlimited data plan for the iphone 3g.
4. I have a 3G iPhone and I would be lost without it. I dont know how I lived without it. I have all my email address synced in, So i never get on the computer to check my email, which is great for someone thats always on the go or doesnt have much time. I have all my bill dates reminders, so my bills are never late. I can record lectures from professors for hours of recording. If im lost somewhere i can get easy directions with street view to show me a real picture of the street and where I need to go. Its an incredible device. You really wont find one iPhone user that regrets getting an iphone.

AT&T is the only carrier for the iPhone and it’s the only place you can buy it with a warranty, so if you already have an AT&T contract you can extend your current contact to use on your new iPhone.

Data plans are required for all iPhones (makes the apps work, otherwise it is just a regular phone) and cost $30 / month.

The cheapest call plan is $39.99 with 450 rollover minutes.

So, where to buy the actual phone? You can go to your local AT&T Wireless store… they will charge you $199.00 for the phone + sales tax ($10-20 depending on your state) and will sign you up for the plans listed above.

Or, you can save money by also buying from AT&T but purchasing online. You probably won’t have to pay sales tax and instead of $199.00 for the phone you have the option to purchase a refurbished phone (one who’s box has been opened but then AT&T inspected it, and made it as new…). These cost just $99.00 for the same iphone 3G 8Gb that your local store would charge you $199 for.

Here are the current deals for the iPhone 3G 8Gb (lowest price = $99.00 with free shipping):

Deals for the iPhone 3G 16Gb:

If you don’t want an AT&T plan, you can by an unlocked iPhone without the contract, these will not have a warranty however. Prices fluctuate but you can see a huge list here:
